Fire Risk Assessments

Who is responsible for fire safety in the workplace?

Staying on top of fire safety is essential for any employer or landlord – you’re responsible for your tenants’ or employees’ health and safety, and Fire Risk Assessments are a statutory requirement under a variety of guidelines.

Laws are stricter for employers in all sectors compared to landlords, as The Framework Directive (89/391/EEC) imposes obligations on employers to have the ultimate responsibility for the safety of their employees in case of fire, even where others have obligations in respect of the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 and Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 also present additional obligations for employers. In terms of residential premises, The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 are aiming to improve fire safety in blocks of flats from a practicality point of view. Whatever your situation is, give us a call and we’ll guide you in the right direction!

If you’re responsible for the safety of others, you need to manage, prevent, or control any risks of fire, identifying and assessing the sources of that risk. This even includes risks presented by trespassers – for example, if poor security means someone can break in and a fire starts – there is a lot to cover!

LEARN MORE ABOUT BISON ASSIST

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A Fire Risk Assessment will vary according to the type and use of your premises, and the specific fire risks associated with them – but generally speaking, it involves a health and safety professional touring your site to identify hazards, and helping you put measures in place to eliminate or control them.

Our fire safety consultant will also take a look at your records to review previous assessments, support you on undertaking the recommendations from previous reports, and help you identify areas that require improvement.

Our goal is to give you practicable solutions and recommendations in line with the current guidelines – we keep up with the changes to legislation, so you don’t have to worry about it. We also take pride in being unobtrusive while we’re on site with you – so we’re not impacting your day-to-day operations.

Fire Risk Assessments should be carried out regularly – we will visit you once a year to ensure control measures are still effective, and to help you identify and manage potential new hazards.

When you’re part of the Bison Herd, we’re always on the other end of the phone if you need any advice!
